How UI/UX design thinking challenged a dreaded ailment.

/ Brand
Smit.Fit is a support eco-system that helps users manage diabetes and other cardiac ailments, through extensive offline health, fitness and nutrition consultations.
/ Brief
Smit.Fit needed a platform for users to monitor, track and log their progress with ease.
They also wanted to present it as a strongly comparable option to other apps in the same space. Their existing online experience seemed very limited in scope and impact. Glaringly, the existing app did not allow participants to onboard, log, track or complete real-time activities like timely medication, intake alerts or self-testing. Smit.Fit had to manually gather this data from participants through their offline processes that were comprehensive and spanned many days.
/ Role
Smit.Fit roped in Spinach to compress this data into a streamlined digital experience. For this, we would have to focus on 3 aspects:
  • Implement a complex maneuver to shift on-boarding online, while ensuring that this process took no longer than ten minutes.
  • Design customized life-plans that allowed users significant flexibility and control.
  • Create compelling visual engagement aesthetics to ensure user recall and daily engagement that could influence lifestyle habit changes.

Immersion and Customer Journey mapping
We focused on several micro-interactions in the customer's journey to home in on what made it a unique Smit.Fit experience. Based on this journey map and in-depth user interviews, we were able to identify several hidden areas of impact. These helped us address existing gaps between the offline and online processes and allowed us to walk users easily through several possibilities in the online process. Like understanding life plan objectives, defining and setting goals, charting meal plans etc.

Ideate & define
As it turned out, most participants subconsciously engaged with just five aspects of diabetes healthcare. These five aspects formed the crux of their daily battle with diabetes, and it was soon apparent that it was crucial to highlight their significance to keep it top-of-mind for the user.
Ideate & Define

Launching a user experience in the minds of the online user.
  • Our breakthrough was to create the 'Pentagon of well-being'. A five-sided motif that blossoms into the flower of well-being after the user meets each of the five healthcare criteria on any given day.
  • This visual walkthrough resonated with users, creating instant engagement value. Using the Pentagon as a touchstone, the other elements of the program like creation of a life-plan, goals to be set etc. were easily navigated, tracked, and communicated.
  • In time, we successfully and seamlessly transferred Smit.Fit's offline efficiency to its digital interface. Deep mining into micro-moments, embedding a habit-forming interface, and easy engagement and recall value would define the brand's new interaction with happy and satisfied users from here on.
